 Query Into Being Different
Back to Full Blog

I thought I would take a break from the sermons and instead respond to a query. A query that has presented itself in many forms, my own self-doubt at times and from others trying to gain some insight into how they might avoid some of the pitfalls that accompany the choice to question everything.

In my experiences, I have fallen into every pit and then some, if someone desires this life or already on that path, my consul can only point to the rewards and perils. So, here are some admissions. Get ready to "suck it up" as they say:

- Nobody will ever understand you completely.
- You can only speak for yourself.
- There will always be a major distortion between what you know, what you will be able to communicate, and what people will then comprehend.
 - There is no such thing as perfect trust.
- Life does have no intrinsic meaning.
- Much of my life is directed by things preceding me and therefore out of my control.
- Your mind will always be polluted by public discourse (superego).
- We impact everything, but yet we are often powerless to control.
- Discursive opinion will often not match reality.
- Perspectives and living are ephemeral and temporary.
- There is no perfect truth (save for maybe Math)
- You will always be irrational.
- Your emotions will always interfere with your sense of truth.
- Life is composed of layers of visible and invisible cliché's and story lines
- We are ultimately subject to forces beyond us, natural selection, laws of accelerating returns, etc.
- There is no perfect break from some vaguely deterministic path.
- What ppl tell you or how others view you will inevitably affect you.
- No event or action is completely beneficial.
- You will always be an agent of some evil.
- You will never be beyond reproach.
- You will be the vehicle of stupid actions that are equally as inane as the sins of others
- You will always have bias.
- Outside of science, nobody knows. like politics. etc.
- We will always have to act on incomplete knowledge.
- There is no absolutely good action
- You will never be able to do precisely what you want to do
- There is no true home
- You can never be truly authentic
- There will always be so much more beyond your awareness.
- Not everything is possible
- You will always be part of an existing process
- You can never truly break from the trajectory, maybe nudge it around, but that'll ultimately be part of that trajectory
- Your weaknesses will always be betrayed by your actions at some point
- You will always be in some nature fake
- No event or meal or situation or conversation will be completely satisfactory
- Nothing will every be completely satisfactory
- You will never be completely comfortable
- Something will always be itchy
- The gravity of life will always be subject to potential subjection of risk to utter, stupid, and simple annihilation. Like a car accident.
- You will never have total control
- You won't be able to win them all. Someone will always hate you no matter what.
- There is no perfect art
- There are other lives within you that will carry on their own
- You won't ever be beyond your own embarrassment.
- You will never do the optimal thing
- There is no true external should.
- There will always be a kryptonite.
- You cannot escape your emotions.
- You cannot forget the past.
- Something will always haunt you.
- Nobody is beyond temptation
- Knowing and doing will always be different

This list is the result of the input of several friends. It represents many years of experience of walking off the beaten path and I’m always looking for more. anyone?

There is no such thing as up or down.

OK, how's this:

"There are never any absolutes."

Oxymoron, anyone?

The past is dead, the future nonexistent; all you have is now.

Thomas Merton wrote something to the effect of the God defined is the God confined. Seems that when we define ourselves it becomes a telling state of our condition and vision.

How many times did you fly outside the envelope?

there are no absolute truths (maybe math) is pretty close and its on the list.

it is hard to for many to grasp but, it a prerequiste yo making the list that you are able to prsent the inherent paradox within your statement. beyond silly lists that exist to point that out to us, the paradox is one of my most basic filters.

it is nice to think that someone out of a close circle gets it.

whenever i was scared or for the thrill, like many there can be that trap of loving scaring yourself. it took a little very short man three years that if really wanted to scare myself, look at myself.

Much wisdom in your list, for those like I, "who might avoid some of the pitfalls that accompany the choice to question everything." Thank you!

In view of all these pitfalls, it makes one wonder how we get through life, doesn't it?

This list is wonderful. The only thing I can suggest: The possibilities are endless so nothing in this world or out of it should ever surprise us (and for that same reason we should condemn nothing). Easy to say, hard to practice.

Again, Thomas Merton said "The God defined is the God confined"
Maybe we would be better served by applying the same to ourselves.
It would save on the purchase of a hairshirt.

i suppose i am going to need to reintroduce my self to merton. can't speak to god but the restricting circumstance of my present situation has offered insights that would not have been possible without the restrictions. i know merton was not speaking to this but it is what keeps me reasonably sane. we do what we can.

Good Morning!

We played a game over at my place this weekend where bloggers picked other bloggers that they like and then say why. There are still people CASTING LOVE INTO THE STREAM !!!

Just dropping off a love note that Valkyrie left for you at my place.

Valkyrie: Here are some blogstream community members I don't remember seeing listed already and whose work I almost invariably enjoy:

* The Vessel @ Caravan to Enlightenment II

* NotACynic @ don't believe everything...

* MokieJoe @ Touchy Subjects

* Squash for Brains @ when your brain turns to squash

* WINGFIRE @ talking stick

* The Peever @ Leave it to Peever

* FrankieB @ Suicide Note: A Literary Journey

* Parsival @ Parsival's Boat (wish he would post again...)

If you would like to cast love in the stream too, pick three bloggers (or more if you like) and post them on your blog and then go to their blog and tell them what you said, asking them to pick three (or more if they like) and so on and so on ...

Huggggggggggggggz,
Taylor

damn, i thought my writing skills had improved. you should read somemore or i haven't made any progress in my writing, because i have been attempting in aseries of postings extending back 7 or 8 that put forward my thesis that consciousness is a fundamental for our universe.

please read some more and let me know if i have completely missed that mark.

I think I would add this to your list: We can't not judge, each other or ourselves.

And perhaps, along the same line, we will always compare ourselves and each other.

'Ping'
ex marine son driving me around like an old Lab.
We are way out by Mira Mesa. I hear the thunder.
I guess they awe practicing carrier landings. Hell, I don't know. At about 530am I Walk the knee down to where I can see Coronado Island. Another carrier is in. It is bigger than the Nimitz which left more than two weeks ago.
I watch the commercial heavy lifters land down town. I can see their gear when my knee will allow me to walk down to Laurel St.
Getting old is a way for the body to remind the mind what it has forgotten as a convenience.
