I saw a program on PBS last week, "Bill Moyers: America" that actually encouraged me. It was actually a shock to my system, so much so that it has taken me a week to gather myself.
It seems the Evangelical movement has sided against their leaders ( the big mouthed, bad hair ones ). They have decided that "taking up the cross of Christ " and sitting back while his creation is destroyed is not really very "Christian". They have linked the issues of global warming and the preservation of wilderness to their faith.
Hurray, it is about time. I certainly welcome their passion.
I have never understood how one can worship God and yet care so little for his creation and it's destruction all around us. It wasn't just complacency, the leadership of their movement vilified environmentalists. I have been told that, "God is omnipotent, he created this earth for man to use and if it's falling apart then that is God's plan and who are we to be concerned".
The passage most often quoted is Genesis account of creation where man is given dominion over the earth and it's creatures. I blame this for much of the problem. In all my explorations this account of creation is the only one that "man" is not charged with living in harmony with the earth, it's creatures and plants not to dominate them.
What really drives me crazy about this position is the knowledge that the Genesis story did not even come about until the Israelites came out of the Babylonian captivity. Up until that point and for a thousand years the story of creation was of Yahweh wrestling a giant snake to force creation. A very warrior account, very much in line with the cultures reality and almost exactly the same story as the Babylonians.
So they appear to leave their captivity and the story changes and their God is no longer in need of a struggle to create the earth, he just speaks and it is so and to boot he does it in six days. Take that.
So much for my rantings, I want to focus on the encouragement. I am encouraged if even just a little, What will encourage me alot is if we can get together now and drive the dishonorable greedy mother fuckers in charge out and start again with a goal of an earth on which Christ's spirit would be honored.

and boy I can hear it, just around the corner. Hold tight... Ig
I cannot believe I havn't come across your blog sooner...nice writing buddy! Good post, but do you really think Christians should get involved in another political realm?
If so cool! BTW I really like the way you think about things!

If you have Itunes (you can run it on Windows since it is basically an Apple product) you can listen to Bill Moyers Interviews with some most remarkable folks. Just click over to Icasts.
The oldest boy and I can clean equipment while listening to some brain jarring mind food. Something I can't seem to get enough of.
Good to see this info hit the blog zone. Good work!

I can't get with the projection of God that permeates the thinking now either, but I do recognize the disconnect between belief and knowledge. Would gladly exchange what is left of my life, if I could be assured that I would get to see how it all turned out. I am fairly sure that I won't see the outcome in this present body. I do believe it is going to be a real "good story".
glad you stopped by and enjoyed your comment.
you have a heart, it is and has been the journey of a lifetime to learn the art of expressing from this position rather than the mind. I am much more comfortable in a environment that provides it's own jargon. Blogging is an attempt on my part to contact and extend myself to people who are not "on the same page".
thank for stopping by hope contact can continue

I make a distinction between what I as the people who occupy the pews and those that have hijacked this religion. I am not a Christian, I consider myself a strict agnostic, but I welcome the passion.

thanks, have been an Apple user since I was part of the creative team that put together the 1984 Super Bowl commercial. If it were"nt for PBS and Discovery I would have alot more spare time. Bill Moyers is one of my favorites, after all he's a Texas boy.

Excellent post!
You certainly write with flair. The message is an excellent one. We should care about the life of things on earth outside of our own.
I feel the key is harmony some call it balance. I go so far as to suggest that the concept of us, as humans, being custodians is more of a reflection of how far out of balance we've become. I agree that our technology has caused the footprint of our culture to increase dramatically and as never before, but isee that as one of the symptoms of how far we have strayed from the conceopt of harmony. I can make a pretty strong argument that the concept of harmony has not received much attention any where ie the basic psychology of the human race.
I've followed the discussions in your blog, and I find the movement from the "earth based" cultures to those of the major religions today, and they were all "earth based" with a emphasis on living in harmony with, to be more compelling personally than the differences today. I certainly enjoy your blog and the discussion there. Come back and we can discuss again.

I certainly don't want to seem as though this is a mutual back patting, but I've found in my searching of compatible places that are open to different views your blog is high on the list. I am amazed on how many things that we can agree on but how our "witnessing of the same crime scene" differs.

As for the starting all over idea, I don’t think we can get a homogenized country to believe in one God (Tower of Babel). In poker when you are dealt a hand you have to play or fold. We all have a responsibility to act accordingly to take care of our lives.
I really need to work on my communication skills. One God? I have never gotten past " if ".
